NOTE If you have not read the Black Magician Trilogy (or three books where the action is place more than 20 years earlier than the events described in the "Mission Ambassador") and have it in my plans, I suggest to start reading my opinion, so the three paragraphs. Just to bring the story "The mission of the Ambassador, I had to place a" small "SPOILER, for certain events of the aforementioned trilogy.
My opinion:
Twenty years after the events described in the Black Magician Trilogy. Much has changed over time. Changes occurred not only in the Mages Guild, but also in the underworld Imardinie and Thieves. There were also new alliances, new law. In this new reality Sone met again, Cery'ego, Rothen Master, Master Dannyla, Regina. In addition to the well-known figures on the scene entered also quite new characters, most important of which was Lorkin son Sonei and the late Grand Master Akkarina.
turning more pages of the novel, I could keep track of the four main topics, which describe the actions of Cary, Sonei, Danylo and Lorkina. And so Cery tried to find out who is the mysterious Ranger Thief, murderer, who for several years hunting for the people of the underworld. When I discovered that this mysterious person who uses the magic, turned for help to Sonei. Sone, in turn, in addition to involvement in the matter Cery'ego, was the head of his clinics, the problems of the Nile - the drug, commonly called the rot, as well as issues with the guild and its rules, which did not really check the up since the series could join the Guild magically gifted individuals from poor layers society. Dannyl but decided to accept the position of ambassador to a distant Sachace. It was a great opportunity for him to find a new documents that would help him push his research on the history of magic to the front. Lorkin wishing to find a meaningful purpose in life, he decided to go along with it. He hoped to discover some forgotten areas of magic, which would provide a better defense Kyralii.
Yes, in general, I present a plot of "Mission Ambassador", without betraying too much. Probably all the topics raised, and those happening in Kyralii and those in Sachace beautifully combine with each other in the last part. Although I am curious, what and for whom the author focuses mainly in the later volumes.
As for the pace of action, it was not exciting. Ms. Canavan slowly and gradually introduced to me in all matters, created the foundation for events that occur only in the following sections. I hope they will be more exciting and less predictable. Yes, this unfortunate predictability. Why do most of the books must be so schematic? Why do not you invent something totally unexpected and will make the reader, colloquially speaking, Kopar drops? Unfortunately, the Mission Statement of the Ambassador, "everything went as it should, and the events or mysteries which the author wanted to surprise, stayed by me much earlier terminated, usually by their own conjectures or wireless connection between the individual facts.
element that most disturbed me in this, as in other books, Ms. Canavan, not surprisingly previously mentioned clichés, host in the story, but the creations of the characters. Really I can take any other shortcomings, if the characters are very well worked out, alive, expressive, arousing emotions. Unfortunately for me, the characters in "The mission of the Ambassador," were completely clear and predictable. Without some are specific to their character traits, way of being, of speaking. All seemed to me to be the same. Although there was a distinguishing feature - sexual orientation. And that's it. The worst of it was that when I read the passages about Sonei, before my eyes I saw the Age of the Five Auraya (other trilogy Mrs. Canavan). For me it is one and the same person, but under a different name and lived in two completely different worlds. I hope that in subsequent parts of the characters will gain a little more individuality and unpredictability.
Ha! And now surprise you. Despite the predictable, sometimes the pain, share, and not very interesting schematyczności creation of heroes, "the Mission of the Ambassador," I read really well. Devil take that and not be fired any special sympathy for the heroes. And so what I had often suspected right, what will happen next. The book provided me with a very pleasant reading. I think that is responsible for the style and way of writing the author. Ultra-light, colorful, and that makes up unconsciously absorbed before the next sentence, and a man look up, turns the last card. And it is what I like in books Canavan.
certainly another interesting element of this book, is well worth the memories and who urozmaicał my reading, were references to the Black Magician Trilogy, and the events described in the "student of the magician." Knowing the content of the earlier books as I could keep track of the characters gradually discover the mysteries of the past, drawing the right conclusions, or on the contrary. But sometimes I like to tap their finger in the bowl and say, "This is not so." However, sometimes felt the same way as they lost, because previous books, I read some time ago and some information on good flew out of my head.
conclusion - "The Mission of the Ambassador," is a typical position of Mrs. Canavan, rigid, but light and pleasant to read. If you like her books, I think that it should not be disappointed. People who just want to read the works of Australian writers refer to the earlier position - a pupil of the magician, the Black Trilogy Maga or wholly unconnected with the world - the Age of the Five.
My Rating: 4.5 / 6
