My opinion:
Adamkowicz Marek is a Polish writer, journalist and writer. In his career he has won in competition for the best story about Gdansk criminal, as well as a double-prose laureate them. John Drzeżdżona. So far, his stories were published in "Pomerania", "Lighthouse" and the set of "The Mystery of Neptune." In 2010, published by Oficynka released collection of short stories Fri "Whispers", which is the first book by this author.

On "Whispers" consists of 11 short stories. Some of them were already published, some are completely Adamkowicza new texts. The stories in this collection take place over nearly 100 years, and where to happen, is the most corners of Gdansk and its surroundings. Knocking over another page from the book we meet an old veteran of the colonial wars in Africa, which, recalling those days, recalls ourselves of the curse, which he threw at him one of the captured Hererów ("Greetings from Luderitz). In the story" Whispers "visit with Karl in a beautiful grotto whispers przypałacowym park, where we have an appointment for a romantic encounter with a mysterious and a charming woman, met by Karl two days earlier. In another story, we meet Otto Schwan, obrotnego Jew, owner of a thriving fashion house at Hauptstrasse, who was forced to rozprzedania all of its assets ("Otto Schwan leave Danzig"). In "The Road to Kahlbude" little Edwin experiencing the horrors of a winter which can cause to other people, and "French Lessons" meet two women who took the war lovers of men, home, family. Erna Kruger is the heroine of the story "Cat on a pond" which remembers its past, from the days before World War II until the concrete housing estates began to "grow" like mushrooms after rain. In subsequent stories, we try to solve the mystery of a treasure hidden in the attic oficynki for the service ("The Lady with 'Neckermann'") and get to know the secret, which leads into a room in an old, ramshackle house ("Onkel Werner"). "Pretty things" are memories of an elderly man on Marshal Pilsudski and the war against the Bolsheviks. In the last two stories, we are witnesses of image theft Lord Jesus, who hung over the pulpit in the parish church has been two hundred years ("Eyes of Christ") and try to find a little letter of love, lost somewhere in the streets of Gdansk ("Restless").

stories in this collection are unusual, melancholy and nostalgic. The stories told or remembered by the characters seem so real, and probably many of them could even happen in the real world. Although each story snuta tells a story about something else, they are all interlinked by thread sadness, a sense of loss, sorrow for what has gone, longing for loved ones. They allow us to travel in time, know the horrors and tragedies befell the people. They are also a kind of lesson in Polish history in the twentieth century.

whole is written in a simple, cost-effective and concise manner, without any frills. Nevertheless, the story goes to the reader, who is able to imagine everything carefully. The heroes are mostly people experience the fate of the survivors in your life various types of tragedies. The author tells us about them exactly what we need to know to be true we have released and their fate worthy of attention.

Frankly, that reading this book was for me at the beginning of a very tiring. For the sixth story I could read only one a day, sometimes even doing a few days break between each. Too much was in them for me, sorrow, pain, longing. I am definitely too soft for this type of literature. Turned over the pages roaring like a beaver, and after graduating I was looking for another story solace in the arms of her husband. But with each subsequent story drew in that collection, and more from 'Cats over the pond ", which is the story number seven, has not released a book of his hands. Although referred to as I've shed a few tears ... dozen.

This collection, though, so sad, is in its own way beautiful. The stories contained in it allows to reflect on life. Over what it is ephemeral, as in one moment you lose everything. Allow us to appreciate what we have.
