My opinion:
Orson Scott Card is one of the most famous and popular science fiction writers in the world. He is famous mainly because of its classic "Ender's Saga," and the first two novels in this series (" Ender's Game, "" Speaker for the Dead ") has received the prestigious Hugo Award and Nebula Card has won more than 50 novels, more than this is the author of many short stories, dramas, many programs, dramas or arts theater. My first encounter with the card were a number of years ago, when I read "Seventh Son" - a book opening a series of "Tales of Alvin Creator." To be frank, this series is not finished, because the second part turned out to be difficult to reach, and the book I did not like enough to make an effort in the quest and continue the "Tales of ...." However, recently publishing Prószyński and S- ka decided to resume and release by the end of another cycle of Card's - "Coming Home," and I, reaching for the first part of this saga - "Memory of the Earth", give the author an opportunity to encourage me to read his subsequent books.
author of "In Memory of Earth" takes us to a distant planet Harmony, which has for more than 40 million years is inhabited by descendants of people who left Earth in search of a new home. The early settlers built the artificial intelligence - Oversoul, which had exercise care with Harmony and supervised by interfering in people's minds, that people are once again brought the destruction of their planet. But after so many years Oversoul begins to wane, and the human mind there are new ideas, dreams and aspirations, which may prove fatal to civilization. To prevent Oversoul, however, requires the help of people, but not everyone is suited to this. They are either too stupid or their minds are no longer vulnerable to Oversoul. Does the host to Harmony will be to find someone who will be able to do what you need?
book is not a typical position of science fiction. You will not find in her spacecraft, interplanetary travel, technology of a "higher shelves. They seemed to me to be artificial, and their proceedings, sometimes lacked logic and strange for me to react to certain situations. I had the impression that it was all so ... far-fetched.
As for the story "Remembrance of the Earth" - it's too irresistible void. Action was moving the way forward rather slowly. I missed it a surge, the unexpected return of shares. Something that would cause me a pleasant surprise, and sped up a little heartbeat. And the heroes plątają back and forth, meditate, consult and again ... and plątają my eyelids are becoming heavier and I try not to fall asleep. Yes, the plot was too monotonous to me, and sometimes, by the behavior of the characters, too artificial and far-fetched. I know it's fantasy, where anything can happen, but without exaggeration.
interesting place proved to be Basilika - the city, which happens most of the action contained in the pages of the book. There is, in a rather unusual habits. The city seems to belong to women. No man can own a house in the city, is also banned from entering the central part of the city, where there is a sacred lake, where Oversoul "speaks" to women. These are just some of the many laws there in force. In addition, women's religion differs from the beliefs of men. On Oversoul example, for women it is she, for men - On. To be frank, a little bit in that lost its way in the beginning. Another very interesting element of culture is to sign contracts for a period of one year between the partners rather than marriage. After this time a woman can extend the contract for another year, or find a new partner. By doing so it was difficult to discern who is who for whom, but thanks genealogicznemu explanation at the beginning of the book, somehow I found this.
conclusion - the book is not bad, but it is not good. Is average. I think not suitable for someone who wants to get started with fantasy, because it simply is discouraged. But for people reading fiction, the book might seem to be just boring. It may, however, someone captured and will appeal to? Of course, there is a possibility. But I do not feel so curious and happy after reading this item to reach for the next volumes. Mr. Card himself again to me, is not encouraged, but I'm going to give him his third and final chance and read "Ender's Game."
